Advent means the approach or the arrival or the coming of something. Such as the arrival of an important person or a significant event.
Example with the usage of the word ‘advent’:
With the advent of new government to be in place by the end of the year, the social and economic sectors are expected to gain momentum for development and investment from outsiders. Will that be an advent?
The non-prosperous area shows signs of optimism for growth and opportunities for employment with the advent of a new railway line in corners of YSR district in Andhra Pradesh.
ADVENT: With capital ‘A’
Advent is the period with four Sundays before Christmas.
In Christianity there are hymns to mark the period of Advent.
In Bible, Advent refers to the coming of Christ. As the Christianity spread as a result of the decision of the Roman Empire to have it as the state religion, Advent is marked since 5th century AD.
Advent heralds the Christmas season and thus, the birth of Christ.
ADVENTISM:
Adventism is a branch of Protestant Christianity. It believes in Jesus Christ’s Second Coming. According to www.adventist.org the official website of Adventists, “Seventh-day Adventists accept the Bible as the only source of our beliefs. We consider our movement to be the result of the Protestant conviction Sola Scriptura—the Bible as the only standard of faith and practice for Christians.”
Adventism has 28 fundamental beliefs that are organized into six categories: the doctrines of God, man, salvation, the church, the Christian life and last day events. And, in each of its teaching, “God is the architect, who in wisdom, grace and infinite love, is restoring a relationship with humanity that will last for eternity.”
ADVENTIST:
Adventist is a member of a religious group within Christianity who believes that Christ’s second coming is every year.
ADVENTITIOUS:
Adventitious is an adjective. Adventitious means not planned, accidental. Can we prepare for adventitious occurrences in life?
THE SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST CHURCH:
The Seventh-day Adventist Church is one of the denominations of the Protestant Christianity. It emphasises on the imminent ‘Second Coming’ of Jesus Christ. It also observes Saturday as the seventh day of the week or the Sabbath. It has its origins in the Millerite movement in the USA in the middle of nineteenth century and was established in 1883. It stresses on diet, holistic understanding of the person, the Trinity and the infallibility of the Scripture among others. Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) is its humanitarian aid organization.
THE SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIS CHURCH IN INDIA: Andhra Pradesh and Telangana
The Seventh-Day Adventist Church is one of the major Christian denominations in India. As of 2017, the church has more than 1,585,329 members or 15 lakhs + members.
William Lenker and A. T. Stroup popularised the church in India. He started it by selling the literature of Adventism in Chennai (then known as Madras) in 1893.
Many states in India has Seventh-Day Adventist Churches: Andhra Pradesh (3), Arunachal Pradesh (1), Assam (1), Karnataka (14), Kerala (3), Maharashtra (1), Manipur (1), Meghalaya (1), Punjab (1), Tamil Nadu (more than 12).
The Seventh-Day Adventist High School is one of the oldest private schools in Secunderabad – the twin city of Hyderabad – the capital of Telangana.
