‘Old Order Changeth’ – But Is It Progress (For Better]

Shakespeare has not observed ‘Old Order Changeth, Yielding Place to New’ It was said by Alfred Tennyson. but means the same, as did the Bard’s roses, by any name. Ordinary people say, but the greats like him observe. He also spake, being given licence, while lesser mortals have only spoke). But is it progress?
Speaking in Capitals (as only the English can) or small letters, change is the norm of life. What exists, especially if it lives, has to change, but all change (whether in living or other things) is not progress .
Progress is defined as change for the better. Change, as inevitable as it may be, is not always for good. It is just change or, in some cases, can also be ‘regress’.
Examples of the latter phenomena are plenty. Forty years ago the children respected parents (and all elders). Now there is a role reversal: elders respect children. Then all sought children but now many don’t (out of fear).
Forty years ago, marriage was easy but divorce was difficult. Now it is difficult getting married but easy to get divorced.

Forty years ago, only one person worked to reed a family of many. Now husband and wife both work to support only one child and save for old age as the child abandons them.
Forty years ago, people loved to study and read books; now they update Facebook and read only WhatsApp messages.
